During the first three Southeastern ACE Summits in Asheville, NC, a groundswell of support was started in building trauma-informed communities. The 2015 summit focused heavily on awareness and understanding of the urgency and the need for continued work. The 2017 summit centered around next steps and defining what could be done practically to create trauma-informed communities. During the 2019 summit, they workshopped strategies with colleagues from across the United States and provided for time with peers to learn practical tools, skills, and strategies for advancing ACEs work and trauma-informed care in the attendees’ communities. The 2021 summit will focus on resiliency and positive and protective factors while addressing the role of systemic racism on trauma and trauma responses.
